He was a psychoanalyst, which is someone who studies how minds work. He was also a philosopher, a social activist, and a screenwriter. Guattari was born in Villeneuve-les-Sablons, a suburb near Paris. He spent his life looking at how people, ideas, and society all connect. His work touched on many areas like math, art, and even architecture. He wanted to understand how we become the people we are.

Guattari did much of his important work at a clinic called La Borde. This clinic was located in a town called Cour-Cheverny. At La Borde, he worked with a director named Jean Oury. Instead of just talking to one person alone, he used group therapy. This method looked at how many people interact in a group. It was a very different way to study the mind. This helped him see how people act in larger social groups. He believed that studying these connections was very important for understanding life.

Guattari was very active in many political and social movements. In the 1950s, he helped edit a newspaper called *La Voie Communiste*. He also supported many different struggles for change around the world. In 1965, he helped start a group called the F.G.E.R.I. This group studied many topics like education and linguistics. He was even part of the large French protests in May 1968. Guattari worked hard to find new ways for people to be free. He joined environmental movements later in his life using his idea of ecosophy.

One of his most famous parts of life was his friendship with Gilles Deleuze. They met at the University of Vincennes after the protests of 1968. Together, they wrote two very important books. The first book was called *Anti-Oedipus*, which came out in 1972. The second book was *A Thousand Plateaus*, published in 1980. These books were part of a larger work called *Capitalism and Schizophrenia*. Through these books, they looked at how power and money affect our minds. Their ideas changed how many people think about society.

Guattari had many deep ideas about how we experience the world. He created a way of thinking called schizoanalysis to study the mind. This was a new way to build on older ideas about psychology. He also thought about how modern society makes us want to buy things. In his last book, *Chaosmosis*, he wrote about how to reinvent ourselves. Guattari died from a heart attack in 1992 at La Borde. Even after he died, more of his books were published. People still study his many ideas today.
