Al-Qurtubi was a very famous Muslim scholar from the 13th century.

He was a polymath, which means he was an expert in many different subjects. He studied law, the Arabic language, and the Quran. He was also a specialist in hadith, which are recorded sayings and actions. Many people respected him for his deep knowledge and his skill in writing. He is remembered today as a great thinker of the Sunni tradition.

His life was full of learning and hard work.

As a young man, he helped his family by carrying clay to potteries. He studied under famous teachers like Ibn Abu Hujja and Abdurrahman ibn Ahmed Al-Ashari. After the city of Cordoba fell in 1236, he moved to Alexandria. There, he focused on studying hadith and tafsir, which is the study of the Quran. Later, he moved to Cairo and lived in Munya Abi'l-Khusavb for the rest of his life.

Al-Qurtubi wrote many important books during his life.

His most famous work is called Tafsir al-Qurtubi. This is a huge 20-volume commentary on the Quran. Some people call it al-Jamī' li-'Aḥkām, which means "All the Judgements." It is not just about law, but it explains the whole Quran from a Maliki point of view. He also wrote a book called al-Tadhkirah about life after death. This book has 288 chapters covering topics like funerals and Paradise.

Many great scholars from history have praised his work.

A scholar named Dhahabi called him an "ocean of learning." Another man named Ibn Farḥūn said he was a very righteous and learned servant of God. These thinkers noted that he was very busy with worship and writing. They admired how he was very careful and precise in his work. He was known for being a humble person who lived a simple life.

Today, people still remember Al-Qurtubi and his many ideas.

He died in 1273 and was buried in Egypt. In 1971, a special building called a mausoleum was built over his grave. This building is in a mosque and is still open for people to visit. His books are still very popular and have many different editions. His life shows how much people can learn through study and devotion.
