An AI boom is a time of very fast growth in artificial intelligence. People sometimes call this an AI spring. This name helps show how it is different from older times when progress was slow.

Today, many people use tools called large language models, or LLMs. These are programs designed to talk like humans. They work by looking at a huge amount of data. This helps them give the right answers to many different tasks. ChatGPT is one of these famous tools. As of 2025, it is the 4th-most visited website in the whole world.

Learning how these tools work is quite interesting. To make an LLM, researchers feed the model a massive amount of data. The model uses this data to learn how to respond to human language. Some AI can even make new things from scratch. This is called generative AI. It can create images from just a few words. It can also make music or even videos. For example, a tool called Sora can make videos from text. This helps people make advertisements much faster.

The history of this field goes back a long way. In 1950, Alan Turing spoke about "Thinking Machines." He wanted to see if computers could reason like people. He created the Turing Test to check this. In 1956, John McCarthy used the term "artificial intelligence" for the first time. That same year, the Dartmouth conference was held. This workshop was the birthplace of AI as a field of study.

McCarthy also made a coding language called LISP in 1958. LISP was very important for AI research for many years.

Many different companies have helped build the AI we see now. In 2011, Apple released the iPhone 4S with an assistant named Siri. This was the first mainstream AI assistant on a smartphone. Later, Amazon released Alexa in 2014. Google released its own assistant in 2016. In the last few years, new tools like DALL-E 2 and Midjourney arrived. These tools can make images from text prompts.

Science has also seen big changes. In 2020, a program called AlphaFold helped predict how proteins fold. This could help scientists understand diseases much better.

AI is now part of many things we use every day. It is in our phones and our smart speakers. It even helps scientists with medicine and weather. However, using AI takes a lot of electricity. This creates a high demand for power. Big companies like Microsoft and Google are even looking at nuclear power to help.

People have many different feelings about all these changes. Some think AI will help us solve big problems. Others worry it might change how we work or create art. It is a very big part of our world now.
