Ahn Sahng-hong was a religious leader from South Korea. He lived from January 13, 1918, until February 25, 1985. He was born in a small village called Myeongdeok-ri. This village is in the North Jeolla Province. During his early years, Korea was under Japanese rule. He lived in Japan for nine years with his mother. He finally returned to Korea in 1946. Later, his family moved to the city of Busan.

Ahn began his religious journey in 1947. He joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church that year. He received his baptism in 1948. Later, he began to disagree with some of their teachings. In March 1962, the church disfellowshipped him. This means they removed him from their group. Twenty-three people decided to leave with him. On April 28, 1964, he started the Church of God. He chose this name from the Bible. He set up his church in the Haeundae District of Busan.

Ahn taught many things about the Bible. He wrote more than twenty books about his ideas. One famous book is "The Mystery of God and the Spring of the Water of Life." He wrote this book in 1980. He believed in restoring the New Covenant. This refers to the truths of the early church. He said people should keep seven special feasts. These include the Passover and Pentecost. He also taught that the Sabbath is on Saturday. He believed the Passover could bring eternal life.

Ahn died in 1985 at the age of 67. He died at Maryknoll Hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage. He was buried at Seokgye Cemetery. After he died, his followers split into two main groups. One group is the World Mission Society Church of God. They believe Ahn was the Second Coming Christ. They also believe in a "God the Mother." The other group is the New Covenant Passover Church of God. This group includes his wife and three children. They call him a teacher rather than Christ.

These two groups have different views on the "spiritual bride." One group believes Zahng Gil-jah is the spiritual bride. They use photos from 1984 as evidence. The other group disagrees with this idea. They look at Ahn's writings differently. Some of his books discuss the end of the world. He wrote about the years 1988 and 2012. He said people should focus on obeying God's laws. Today, both groups continue to study his many books. They both keep the feasts he taught.
