Ahmed III was a leader of the Ottoman Empire.

He was born on December 30, 1673, in a place called Hacıoğlupazarı. His father was Sultan Mehmed IV. His mother was Gülnuş Sultan. Ahmed grew up in the Edirne Palace. He spent much of his time studying. He learned about the Qur’an and history. He also studied poetry and music.

He was a very smart and curious person. He practiced calligraphy, which is the art of beautiful writing. He studied with famous teachers like Hafız Osman Efendi. He even wrote his own poems.

Before he took the throne, the empire had many problems. There was a lot of theft and robbery in Istanbul. People were unhappy with how the empire was run. Ahmed helped fix things by changing land laws in 1705. These new laws brought more peace to the land. Because of this, people gave him a special title. They called him a "law-giver." This was a title only three other sultans had ever held.

During his rule, there were many wars.

In 1711, the Ottoman forces fought a war against Russia. They won a major victory at the Battle of Prut. This victory helped the empire gain land back. However, things were harder during wars with Austria. In 1718, a treaty called the Treaty of Passarowitz was signed. This treaty meant the empire had to give up some land. These wars were hard on the empire's money. The cost of fighting caused prices to go up in Istanbul.

Ahmed's time as sultan is often called the Tulip Era.

This was a time when art and culture were very important. Ahmed loved beautiful things and helped support many artists. He helped start the first printing press in Istanbul. This press was used to print books in Turkish and Arabic. He also built many lovely things for the people. He built water fountains and park waterfalls. He even built three different libraries. One of these libraries was built between 1724 and 1725.

Eventually, some people became unhappy with Ahmed. They felt he and his officers spent too much money on luxury. In 1730, a group of soldiers led a large riot. This was led by a man named Patrona Halil. Because of this trouble, Ahmed decided to give up his throne. He gave the power to his nephew, Mahmud I. Ahmed then moved to a different part of the palace. He lived there for six years before he died in 1736.
