Many people know him as a Trojan hero. His family was very important in these legends. His father was a prince named Anchises. His mother was the goddess Aphrodite. This is the same goddess the Romans called Venus.

Because of his mother, Aeneas had a special connection to the gods.

His life was full of many big events. The stories say his name might mean "terrible grief." This came from the sadness Aphrodite felt about his mortal life.

Even when things were hard, he stayed focused on his duty.

When the city of Troy fell, Aeneas had to flee. This was a very difficult time for him. He did not leave his family behind. He carried his father, Anchises, away from the flames.

He also led a group called the Aeneads. This group included his son, Ascanius. They also carried the household gods of Troy with them. They were looking for a new place to call home.

Their long journey took them to many places. They traveled for six years across the sea. One stop was in a place called Carthage.

There, Aeneas met Queen Dido. They stayed there for one year. However, the god Mercury told Aeneas he must leave to find his true purpose. This led him to Italy. In Italy, he fought a war against King Turnus.

After winning, he founded the city of Lavinium.

These stories help explain how Rome began. Many believe Aeneas was the ancestor of Romulus and Remus.

These two brothers were the founders of the Roman race. Some even thought Aeneas became a god named Jupiter Indiges. His life connects the old stories of Troy to the history of Rome. It is a tale of many different cultures and beliefs.
