Most of these islands belong to Greece. They are split into nine regions. Turkey owns some islands too. These are Imbros and Tenedos. They sit in the northeast part of the sea.

The islands have a special climate. Summers are hot. Winters are mild. This means they are not too cold. People often call a group of islands an archipelago.

There are seven groups of islands. They go from north to south. These groups are the Northeastern Aegean Islands, Euboea, and the Sporades. Other groups are the Cyclades and Saronic Islands. The Dodecanese is another group. The last group is Crete.

Long ago, Italy ruled some islands. This included Rhodes and Kastellorizo. They held them from 1923 until 1947. After that, the islands went to Greece. Now, they are part of the Aegean Islands.
