It is a satirical show, which means it uses humor to poke fun at things. The show is about the busy lives of people working at a TV network. It takes place behind the scenes of a fictional sketch comedy show called TGS with Tracy Jordan. The name of the show comes from 30 Rockefeller Plaza. This is a famous building in New York City. This is where the NBC studios are located. It is also where the real show Saturday Night Live is made.

The show follows the life of Liz Lemon.

Liz is the head writer and boss of the comedy show. She has to manage many different people. She works with a star named Tracy Jordan, who is very unpredictable. She also works with Jenna Maroney, who is an actress looking for fame. A big part of the story is the relationship between Liz and Jack Donaghy. Jack is a powerful network executive played by Alec Baldwin.

They often disagree because Liz is liberal and Jack is conservative.

Tina Fey created the series based on her own life. She was once the head writer for Saturday Night Live. At first, she wanted to write a show about cable news. However, she decided to write about the world of writing instead. She began working on the project in 2003. The filming was delayed for a little while because Fey was expecting a baby. The first episode finally aired on October 11, 2006. The show was produced by Broadway Video and Little Stranger. It used a single-camera setup for most of its episodes.

Many people loved the show for its unique style. Some people called it a "live-action cartoon." This is because it used many quick cutaway jokes and funny visual tricks. The music was also very important to the show's feel. Jeff Richmond, who is Tina Fey's husband, wrote the jaunty jazz music. The show was very successful at award shows. It won 16 Primetime Emmy Awards during its run. It was even nominated for 103 Emmy Awards in total. One group even named it the 21st best-written show of all time.

Even though the show was a hit with critics, it sometimes struggled to get many viewers. Still, it is now seen as a landmark in television history. The series ended on January 31, 2013, after seven seasons. People still talk about the final episode today. Many writers say it was one of the best endings ever made. It showed how much work goes into making funny television. The show remains a great example of how to use smart humor.
