It sits in the Ionian Sea. The island is west of mainland Greece. Kefalonia is a large island to the north. Zakynthos looks like an arrowhead. The western side has high cliffs and mountains. The eastern side has flat land and sandy beaches.

The weather is hot and sunny in summer. Winters are mild and rainy. This rain helps plants grow well. People grow olives, grapes, and citrus fruit. A small, sweet grape called a Zante currant grows here.

Many animals live near the water. Loggerhead sea turtles nest in the Bay of Laganas.

Visitors love to see the blue caves. These are carved into the cliffs. You can only reach them by boat. Another famous spot is Navagio beach. It is a cove on the northwest shore. High cliffs surround it. You must take a boat to get there. The island also has a mountain village called Keri. It has a lighthouse to guide ships.
