He was born in Tokyo in 1921. As a boy, he built his own radio. He loved listening to baseball games on it.

Nambu studied the tiny parts of our world. He found a way to explain mass. Mass is how much matter is in an object. He used a way called spontaneous symmetry breaking. This idea helped explain how particles get their weight. This work was very important for science.

He also helped start string theory. This is the study of tiny, one-dimensional strings. Instead of seeing particles as dots, he saw them as strings. He also worked on quantum chromodynamics. This is the study of how quarks stay together. Quarks are very small parts of matter.

In 2008, Nambu won the Nobel Prize in Physics.
