This article covers sensitive topics: mythology. Parents can manage visibility in Parental Controls.

Yodeling is a special way of singing.

It uses quick jumps between two different voice sounds. Singers switch fast between a low chest voice and a high head voice, also called falsetto. This makes a very distinct sound that can carry a long way.

Many people believe yodeling began as a way to call to others. In the Alps, herders used it to talk to their animals. It helped people send messages between mountain villages.

This tradition is still strong in places like Switzerland and Austria. In 2025, UNESCO named Swiss yodeling as a special part of world culture.

People use yodeling in many different ways across the globe. In Romania, some styles help express sorrow. In Hawaii, it grew from a mix of local songs and cowboy music.

In India, singers like Kishore Kumar used it in their music. You can even find yodel-like sounds in Africa, Siberia, and the Solomon Islands. It is a truly global way to share music and feelings.
