Xi's early life was marked by significant political shifts. He was born in Beijing on June 15, 1953. His father, Xi Zhongxun, was a high-ranking revolutionary leader. However, during the Cultural Revolution, his father was purged from the party. This led to Xi being sent to rural Liangjiahe Village in Shaanxi Province.

After graduating, Xi began a career in local government. He served in Hebei province as a deputy party secretary. In Zhengding County, he worked to help local farmers. He helped reduce annual grain requisitions by 14 million kilograms. This effort helped increase farmers' incomes from 148 yuan to over 400 yuan by 1984. He also helped boost the local tourism industry through various development projects. In 1985, he traveled to Iowa in the United States. There, he studied agricultural production and corn processing technology.

Xi later moved to the coastal provinces to hold higher offices. He served as a leader in Xiamen and Ningde within Fujian province. As governor of Fujian from 1999 to 2002, he focused on urban growth. He oversaw projects like the Fuzhou 3820 Project Master Plan. He also worked to attract foreign and Taiwanese investment to the region. Later, he became the governor and party secretary of Zhejiang from 2002 to 2007. In 2007, he was transferred to Shanghai to replace the previous party secretary.

Xi rose to the highest levels of national power in the late 2000s. He joined the Politburo Standing Committee (PSC) in 2007. By 2008, he was the presumed successor to leader Hu Jintao. He was appointed vice president and vice chairman of the CMC. In 2016, the CCP officially named him the leadership core.

Since taking power, he has used an anti-corruption campaign to discipline officials. This campaign led to the downfall of figures like Zhou Yongkang. He also introduced policies for "common prosperity" to increase equality. This included poverty alleviation programs and a crackdown on the tech sector in 2021.

His leadership has also changed China's relationship with the rest of the world. He has pursued a more hardline foreign policy. This involves disputes in the South China Sea and the Sino-Indian border. He also manages complex relations with the United States. To expand China's influence, he champions the Belt and Road Initiative in Africa and Eurasia.
