This idea comes from many different ways of thinking.

In Daoism, people look at the "Dao." The Dao is the way or the flow of nature. The Dao moves in a silent way. It is often invisible. It may even seem like it is not moving at all. Yet, the Dao does everything.

Some say the Dao is like a mother to all things. It was there before heaven and earth.

Other thinkers use wu wei in different ways. For example, some say it helps a ruler. A good leader might rule without being bossy. They can lead by picking the right people for jobs. This helps the land stay stable.

Confucian thinkers also talk about this idea. They believe it is a skill. It is the skill of being a good person. You do not find it by trying too hard. Instead, you find it by living in a good way. It is about being in harmony with the world.
