It is for top tennis players. The Women's Tennis Association runs the tour. This tour started in 1973.

There are many kinds of tennis events. The biggest are the four Grand Slam tournaments. There are also the WTA 1000 events. These are very important. In 2024, players must play in all WTA 1000 events. These events have big prize money. Some give up to $10 million. There are also WTA 500 and WTA 250 events. These are smaller tours. The WTA 125 is the second tier. The ITF tour is the third tier.

Players work hard to earn points. These points help them get a rank. A rank shows how well a player does. They get points by doing well in games. The system looks at the last 52 weeks. For singles, points come from up to 18 games. For doubles, points come from 12 games. Players must include the Grand Slams in their score. This helps show who the best players are in the world.
