Wrens come in many sizes. The white-bellied wren is very tiny. The giant wren is much larger. Most wrens are brown, gray, or black. They often have stripes on their wings or tails.

Many wrens have loud songs. Some birds sing together in a duet. Wrens like to eat insects and spiders. Some larger wrens also eat small frogs or lizards. They might even eat bird eggs.

Some wrens live in dry woods. Others live in thick rainforests. Some species stay in one place all year. Other wrens fly south for the winter. The name for the family is Troglodytidae. This name comes from a word meaning "cave-dweller." This is because some wrens look for food in dark cracks.
