It is a special contest between the best teams in North America. One team comes from the American League, and the other comes from the National League. Because these games usually happen in October, many people call it the "Fall Classic."

The winning team gets to hold the Commissioner's Trophy. This event is a huge moment for players and fans alike.

To win the title, teams must play a series of games. Most years, they use a best-of-seven format. This means the first team to win four games is the champion.

In the past, the rules were a bit different. From 1919 to 1921, teams played a best-of-nine series instead. Since 1925, teams have often used a 2-3-2 pattern for home games. This means one team hosts two games, then the other hosts three, and then they swap back.

The modern World Series began in 1903. Before this, teams had many different ways to find a champion. Some leagues played series in the 1880s, but those were not official. In 1904, the series did not happen because one team's owner refused to play.

He did not think the other league was good enough. Later, new rules called the "Brush Rules" were made to help. These rules helped the series become an official, yearly event that everyone followed.

History shows that the series has changed a lot over time. Through the year 2022, the series has been played 121 times. The American League has won 68 times, while the National League has won 53 times.

Sometimes, things got difficult for the game. In 1919, a group of players on the Chicago White Sox were accused of trying to lose on purpose. There was also a players' strike in 1994 that caused the series to be canceled. Despite these hard times, the games have continued for many years.

Today, the way teams reach the World Series is very organized. Before 1969, the teams with the best records simply moved on. Now, leagues use Division Series and League Championship Series to pick winners.

Even a "Wild Card" team can make it to the big stage. The rules for home-field advantage have also changed many times. Since 2017, the team with the better regular-season record gets to host more games. This ensures the very best teams get a special advantage.
