William is known for a rule called Ockham's razor. This rule says we should use the simplest idea. If one idea explains something, we do not need more. This way of thinking helped the start of modern science. He also had big ideas about how people think. He believed that only single things really exist. He thought general ideas were just names in our minds.

William had many debates with leaders of the Church. He believed the Church and the government should be separate. This helped shape how many countries are run today. He also thought about how much power a leader should have. He died in April of 1447. People still study his work on logic and faith today.
