Marsilius of Inghen was a great thinker from the Middle Ages. He was born near a place called Nijmegen. He studied many subjects like logic and science. He also studied theology, which is the study of God.

Marsilius taught at the University of Paris. Later, he helped start the University of Heidelberg. He was the very first rector there. A rector is a leader of a school. He was also the first to get a doctorate in theology at that school.

He is famous for his work in nominalism. This is a way of thinking about ideas. He believed that general ideas only live in the mind. Outside the mind, there are only single, real things. He also believed we learn by using our senses. This means we use our eyes and ears to know the world.

Marsilius had many ideas about God. He said our minds can prove God exists. But he also said our minds have limits. To know everything about God, we must use faith. His books became very important. Students used them as textbooks for a long time.
