Oresme wondered about the Earth and the sky. He thought about if the Earth spins on its axis. He noted that a small Earth spinning is easier than huge stars moving. He also thought that if the Earth moved, the air would stay behind. This would cause a great wind. However, he believed the air and Earth move together. Still, he felt his ideas were not certain. He thought the heavens moved and not the Earth.

He also did important work in math. He used shapes to show how things change.

He showed how speed and time work together. This was a very new way to think. He also studied the stars and astrology. He did not think stars could tell the future. He believed people have free will. This means we choose our own paths. He was a very original thinker for his time.
