He helped start the modern car industry. He founded General Motors, which we call GM. He also helped start Chevrolet. Durant had a special way of doing business. He bought many different car brands. He put them all under one big company. This way, one company could own many different names.

He made cars for all kinds of people. Some cars were for families with less money. Other cars were very fancy for rich people. He also bought companies that made car parts. This is called vertical integration. This means a company makes the things it needs to build its products.

Durant had a busy life. He once lost control of GM. But he worked hard and won it back later. He even started another company called Durant Motors. He later opened a restaurant and a mine. He died in 1947. His big ideas changed how we travel today.
