Many rivers flow into the sea. These rivers bring fresh water every year. This fresh water makes the sea less salty. The sea has four main bays. The Kandalaksha Gulf is the deepest part. It reaches 340 metres deep. The sea also has many islands. Most are small, but the Solovetsky Islands are large. They sit near the middle of the sea.
