Wang Jian was a famous general for the state of Qin. He lived a long time ago in China. He led many wars to help Qin grow. In 236 BC, he took nine cities from the state of Zhao. Later, he conquered the state of Yan. His son, Wang Ben, also led armies. He helped Qin win more lands.

One big fight was against the state of Chu. The King of Qin wanted to win. He first sent a smaller army. That army lost a large battle. The King then asked Wang Jian to lead. Wang Jian asked for 600,000 men. He also asked for many riches. He did this to show he was not a threat to the King. He wanted the King to trust him.

In 224 BC, Wang Jian began the fight against Chu. He used a clever plan. He stayed inside his forts to trick the enemy. He trained his men in secret. Soon, the Chu army grew weak. Wang Jian attacked and won. By 223 BC, Chu was part of Qin. Wang Jian later retired because he was old.
