Romans held a festival for him every year. It was called the Vulcanalia. This happened on August 23. This was a very hot time of year. People worried that fires might burn their stored grain. To honor him, they made bonfires. They also hung clothes in the sun. Some people began their work by the light of a candle.

Some stories say Vulcan had great power to create life. He was said to be the father of several famous people. One story says a spark from a hearth made a person. Another story says he was the father of a king named Servius Tullius.
