Vsevolod Pudovkin was a famous filmmaker from Russia. He was born in 1893. He worked as a director, an actor, and a writer. He also taught students how to make movies.

Pudovkin was known for his ideas about montage. Montage is a way to join different film clips together. This helps tell a story in a new way. Some directors used montage to show large groups of people. Pudovkin liked to show the courage of single people instead.

He made many famous silent movies. One of his best works was called Mother. He also made a film called Storm over Asia. Later, he made big movies about Russian history. These films were called epics. People praised his work on films like Suvorov.

Pudovkin won many important awards. He received the Order of Lenin twice. He also won the Stalin Prize several times. He was named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1948. He died in 1953. A street in Moscow is named after him today.
