It sits in the cold Arctic. It is part of two lands. One land is Nunavut. The other is the Northwest Territories.

The island is very cold. In winter, it is dark and long. In summer, it is cool and rainy. Snow can fall all year.

Many animals live there. Caribou walk across the ice to find food. Small plants called lichen also grow on the rocks.

Two small towns are on the island. One is called Cambridge Bay. The other is Ulukhaktok. It is a very special place.
