Vicente Aleixandre was a famous poet from Spain. He was born in Seville on April 26, 1898. His writing changed how people thought about Spanish poetry. He was part of a group called the Generation of '27. This group brought new ideas to the world of books. Aleixandre is known as one of the greatest Spanish poets. He wrote alongside other famous writers like Lorca and Cernuda.

His way of writing changed a lot over time. At first, he wrote poems that used strict rules. These early works were influenced by writers like Juan Ramón Jiménez. Later, he moved toward a style called surrealism. This style uses dream-like and strange images to share feelings. He used free verse, which does not follow a set beat. He also used prose poetry to express his ideas.

Aleixandre's poems often explored deep feelings about the world. His early books include Destruction or Love from 1933. He also wrote Passion of the Earth in 1935. Many of these poems used symbols of the sea and the earth. They sometimes felt sad or full of longing. He wrote about love as a powerful force of nature. He believed love could break through human limits.

As he got older, his themes began to shift. In 1944, he wrote a book called Shadow of Paradise. This work focused on friendship and being together with others. He also wrote History of the Heart in 1954. Later, he wrote In a Vast Dominion in 1962. These books showed a move toward spiritual unity. He spent his life studying the heart and the soul.

Many people celebrate his great work today. In 1977, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature. This prize honored his creative way of writing about humans. His poems have even been translated into English. You can find his poems in books like A Longing for the Light. In Madrid, there is a sculpture of him in the plaza mayor. The Spanish government even put his face on postage stamps.
