"text": "Vetulicolia is a group of extinct marine animals from the Cambrian and possibly the Ediacaran periods. These organisms are vital for understanding the early evolution of complex life. Most scientists currently place Vetulicolians in the stem group of the Chordata. A stem group consists of organisms that sit near the base of a specific evolutionary lineage. Chordates are the large group of animals that includes humans, fish, and birds. Some researchers suggest they might be a sister group to the Tunicata, which are sea squirts.
