You can reach it by a bridge. A ferry also runs from April to October.

The island is a very wet place. It is the wettest spot in Ireland. The air stays mild because of warm ocean winds. This helps special plants grow in gardens at Glanleam House. These plants come from far away, like Japan and Chile.

Valentia has a very big history. Long ago, people laid a large cable under the sea. This cable linked Europe to North America. It let people send messages through telegraphs.

You can also find very old clues in the rocks. A student found footprints from 385 million years ago. These were made by early animals near a river. Today, about 658 people live on the island. It is the fifth-biggest island off the Irish coast. People visit to see the cliffs and the sea.
