There, he meets the princess Otohime. He stays for a short time. He thinks only a few days have passed. But when he returns home, he finds a big change. Many years have gone by. Some stories say 100 years passed. Other stories say 300 or even 700 years passed. The princess gave him a special box called a tamatebako. She told him never to open it. He opens the box anyway. White smoke comes out of it. Suddenly, he becomes an old man.
