Uneven bars are a special tool used in gymnastics.

They have two bars set at different heights. These bars are made of fiberglass with a wood coating. A steel frame holds them in place. Gymnasts use white chalk on their hands. This helps them grip the bars. It stops them from slipping.

In the past, the bars were very close together. Gymnasts did simple circles and held still positions. Now, the bars are much farther apart. This change lets gymnasts do big moves. They swing, jump, and fly from one bar to the other. Some moves include a Pak salto. This is a way to fly between the bars.

Judges watch the routines very closely. They look for strength and good form. They also look at how hard the moves are. If a gymnast falls, they lose points. They have 30 seconds to get back on the bars.

Training takes a lot of skill. Many gyms use soft mats or foam pits. These help keep gymnasts safe while they learn.
