Imagine two twins. One stays on Earth. The other goes on a fast space trip.

When the traveler returns, they are younger. The twin on Earth has aged more. This seems like a puzzle. Scientists call this the twin paradox.

This happens because of special relativity. This is a set of rules about how space and time work. Moving very fast changes how time passes. This is called time dilation.

To the twin on Earth, the ship's clock ticks slowly. To the traveler, the Earth seems to move away.

Why is there a difference? The traveler must turn around to come home. This means they must speed up or slow down. This is called acceleration.

Because the traveler changes direction, they are not in the same state as the twin on Earth. They use two different paths through space and time. One twin stays in one place. The other twin moves through two different frames. This change is why they age differently. It is not a mistake in math. It is how our universe works.
