Trigonometry is a part of math. It studies the links between angles and side lengths.

This math works best with right triangles. A right triangle has one square corner. We use special rules to find missing sides or angles.

There are three main rules called functions. The sine rule uses the side opposite an angle. The cosine rule uses the side next to it. The tangent rule compares the opposite side to the adjacent side.

People have studied this for a long time. Ancient Greeks used it to study the stars. They looked at lines called chords in circles.

Later, math experts in India made tables of values. These tables helped people find answers quickly.

Today, we use trigonometry for many jobs. It helps people make maps. It also helps sailors find their way at sea.

Even computers use these math rules to work. We can even use a circle to show these rules. This is called a unit circle.
