Mathematicians are people who solve problems using math. They study numbers, shapes, and patterns. They also look at how things change over time.

Many famous thinkers studied math long ago. Thales of Miletus was one of the first. He used logic to solve geometry puzzles. Euclid was another great thinker. He wrote a famous book called Elements. It helped set the rules for geometry. Archimedes also made big discoveries. He found ways to measure circles and spheres.

Some math is used for real-world tasks. We call this applied math. It helps with science, engineering, and business. For example, people called actuaries use math to study risk. They help plan for things like insurance or money.
