One famous example is Archaeopteryx. It lived about 150 million years ago.

This animal had feathers like a bird. But it also had sharp teeth and a long bony tail. These parts are like a dinosaur. This fossil shows how birds may have come from dinosaurs.

Other fossils show how fish changed into land animals.

A fossil called Tiktaalik lived 375 million years ago. It had gills and scales like a fish. But it also had lungs and a neck. Its fins had bones like simple fingers. These bones might have helped it hold its weight.

We also see how whales began. They come from mammals that lived on land.
