It is the eighth-largest moon in our Solar System. William Herschel found it in 1787. He named it after a fairy queen from a play by Shakespeare.

Titania is made of mostly ice and rock. It might have a rocky core inside. This core could be covered by an icy mantle, which is a thick outer layer. Some scientists think a layer of liquid water might hide between them.

The surface is dark and a little bit red. It has many large holes called impact craters. These holes are made when space rocks hit the moon. Titania also has huge cracks called canyons. These canyons formed as the inside of the moon grew.

One spacecraft named Voyager 2 flew past it in 1986. It took many pictures of the moon. These photos showed about 40% of the surface. We also know there is frozen carbon dioxide on the surface. This might mean the moon has a very thin atmosphere.
