Kanjeng Raden Tumenggung Irwan Susetyo Pakusadewo, known as Tio Pakusadewo, is a prominent Indonesian actor. He was born in Jakarta on September 2, 1963. Tio is of Javanese descent, a heritage that connects him to deep cultural roots. His life has been defined by a dedication to the performing arts. He has worked across many different mediums, including feature films, television soap operas, and theater. His career reflects the changing landscape of the Indonesian film industry over several decades.

Tio's path into professional acting began with a childhood interest in movement. He practiced dance during his elementary school years. In senior high school, he became an active member of his school's theatre troupe. After graduating in 1985, he pursued formal training at the Jakarta Art Institute. Before becoming a full-time actor, he also worked as a model. His feature film debut occurred in 1987 in the movie Bilur-Bilur Penyesalan, which was an adaptation of a novel by Mira W.

His rise to national fame happened quite rapidly in the late 1980s. In 1988, Tio took on four different roles. One of these was in the film Catatan Si Boy II, which helped him gain widespread recognition. His status as a major star was solidified through his work in the 1990 film Love in a Slice of Bread. This film won the Citra Award for Best Film at the 1991 Indonesian Film Festival. In that same year, Tio earned his first Citra Award for his performance as an eccentric composer in Lagu Untuk Seruni.

The early 1990s brought significant challenges to the Indonesian domestic film industry. As the film market declined, Tio shifted his focus toward television soap operas. In 1993, he took the entrepreneurial step of founding his own production house called Kalbuku. This company produced several popular serials, such as Desy and Anak-Anak Menteng. However, the business eventually faced financial difficulties and had to close. During this period, Tio also struggled with a drug addiction. These personal and professional hardships led to a gap in his film career.

Tio returned to the big screen in 2004 with a role in the film Virgin. Since 2007, he has maintained a very consistent presence in the industry. He appears in at least two films every single year. His work spans many different genres to show his range. He has acted in horror films like Legenda Sundel Bolong and comedies such as Quickie Express. He has also performed in serious dramas like Sang Penari and intense thrillers like Pintu Terlarang.

His technical skill has been recognized by many prestigious organizations. Tio has won multiple Citra Awards, including Best Leading Actor awards in 1991 and 2009. He has also received several Golden Screen Awards from the Indonesian Movie Awards. In 2016, he won both the Indonesian Movie Awards and the Usmar Ismail Awards for his role in Letters from Prague. This specific film was significant because it was selected as the Indonesian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. In total, five of his films have been submitted for this Academy Award category.

Beyond acting, Tio has made significant contributions to the culture and education of his craft. In 2010, the royal court at the Sultanate of Yogyakarta granted him the title Kanjeng Raden Tumenggung. This honor recognizes his Javanese lineage. That same year, he established an acting school in Kemang, South Jakarta. He founded this school because he believed the quality of new actors needed improvement. At his school, he teaches a specific method of acting that he developed himself. This allows him to pass his professional knowledge to the next generation of Indonesian performers.
