Long ago, the world was split into groups.

Two big groups led the way. Many countries did not join them. These countries were called the Third World.

These lands were often in Africa or Asia. They were also in Latin America. Many of these places were once ruled by others. Now they were making their own rules.

Some people thought these lands were poor. They did not have much money or tools. Because of this, the name became a way to talk about wealth.

Today, we use different names for these lands. We call them developing countries. This is a more helpful way to talk.

It is interesting to see how names change over time.
