Theo Albrecht was a businessman from Germany. He and his brother Karl started Aldi. This is a big chain of grocery stores. They wanted to sell good items at low prices.

In 1960, the brothers split the company. They had a fight about selling cigarettes. Theo ran Aldi Nord in the north. Karl ran Aldi Süd in the south.

Theo liked to save money in many ways. He often ate simple meals with potatoes. He even used tiny pencil stubs. He once said to use thinner paper for store plans. This would help the company save money.

In 1971, Theo was kidnapped. Some men held him and asked for money. A large sum of money was paid. He was let go safely. After this, Theo and his family stayed very private. They did not like to be in the news. Theo was rarely seen in photos.

Theo was a very wealthy man. In 2010, Forbes said he was the 31st richest person in the world. He died in July of that year. He was born in 1922.
