The Pink Panther is a famous group of stories.

It includes many funny movies and cartoons. These stories often follow a silly detective named Inspector Jacques Clouseau. He is a French policeman who is not very good at his job. Many people love these stories because they are full of mystery and humor. The movies have been shared through books, comic books, and even video games.

Most of the stories center on a very special jewel. This is a huge pink diamond called the "Pink Panther." It is very large and worth a lot of money. The diamond has a tiny mark inside the stone. When you look closely at this flaw, it looks like a leaping pink cat.

This gem appears in six of the eleven original films. Sometimes the jewel is the main part of the plot. Other times, the name is just used for the title.

These stories began in the early 1960s. The first movie came out in 1963. It was directed by Blake Edwards. A famous actor named Peter Sellers played the role of Clouseau. His performance was so popular that the whole series grew around his character. The animated Pink Panther cat appeared in the movie opening. This character was designed by Hawley Pratt and Friz Freleng.

The cartoon started in 1964 with a short called "The Pink Phink."

Many people remember the specific sounds and faces of the series. Henry Mancini wrote the famous music for the films. This catchy theme song is very well known. In the movies, Clouseau has many helpers and rivals. He has a manservant named Cato and a boss named Commissioner Dreyfus. The character of Dreyfus was played by Herbert Lom.

Later, actor Steve Martin played Clouseau in new movies starting in 2006. These new films helped show the characters to a new generation.

The Pink Panther stories show how one idea can grow. It started as a movie about a diamond. Then, it became a series about a silly detective. Finally, it became a famous cartoon character on TV. People watched the Pink Panther Show on Saturday mornings. Even though the movies have changed over many years, the fun stays the same. The series uses silly mistakes to make people laugh.
