It is often called "The White Album." The cover is plain white with no pictures. This was very different from their last bright cover. The album has 30 songs on it. It uses many musical styles. These include folk, rock, and blues.

The band wrote many songs in India. They went there to study meditation. They only had acoustic guitars to use. Because of this, some songs sound very simple.

Making the album was not easy for the group. There was a lot of tension. The members often argued with each other. Some people even left the studio during the work. These hard times helped lead to the band breaking up later. Even with these problems, the album was a big hit. It reached number one in Britain and the United States. Many people think it is one of the best albums ever made.
