Tetsuji Takechi was a famous Japanese director and writer. He spent his life making theater and films. He was born in Osaka in 1912.

Takechi loved old Japanese theater. He worked with kabuki, which is a colorful style of drama. After World War II, many people stopped watching kabuki. Takechi wanted to change that. He used new ideas to make the plays feel full of life. He even used music from Western orchestras in his shows. This helped many people find interest in these old stories again.

Later, Takechi moved into making movies. He made a new kind of film called a pink film. These films often showed adult themes. In 1964, he made a movie called Daydream. It was a big-budget film.

His work with these films caused trouble with the government. They arrested him for his film choices. Takechi went to court to fight them. He won his case. This win helped other filmmakers make similar movies in Japan. Because of his work, some people call him "The Father of Pink." He was a bold man who changed Japanese art.
