Tamil has a rich history of writing. Long ago, people wrote on stones and clay. They used a script called Tamil Brahmi. Later, they used a different script called Vatteluttu. There are over 2,000 ancient poems called Sangam literature. These poems show the skill of the writers. In 1578, a prayer book was printed in Tamil. This made it the first Indian language to be printed. Today, many people still use Tamil to share stories and news.
