Tōhoku is made of six prefectures. These are Akita, Aomori, Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi, and Yamagata. The weather is often colder than other parts of Japan. Because it is cold, farmers can only grow one crop a year. For a long time, this area was a great place for rice. It provided 20 percent of all the rice in Japan.

Many people visit Tōhoku to see its beauty. There are many pretty sights like Matsushima Bay.

The region also has many old castles. One famous place is Aizuwakamatsu Castle. In the past, a man named Date Masamune ruled here. He built many palaces to make the land look nice. Today, many people still travel there to see the views and history.
