Two big rivers flow through the city. These are the Komagome and Arakawa rivers.

The name Aomori means "green forest." Long ago, a small forest sat on a hill. Fishermen used it as a landmark. People have lived here for a very long time. One famous spot is the Sannai-Maruyama Site.

This site shows how people lived in prehistoric times.

Aomori is known for its heavy snow. It is one of the snowiest cities in the world. Winds hit the city and make thick clouds. These clouds drop much snow. The winters are long and cold. In summer, a cool wind called Yamase often blows. This wind can make the weather very cool. There are also warm hot springs to visit. You can find them in the mountains or near the coast.
