Groups of people, called castaways, live in small camps. They must build their own shelters from trees. They also find their own food and water. They may fish or find fruit to eat.

Castaways are split into groups called tribes. Each tribe has its own camp and its own color. They wear a cloth called a buff to show their color. Tribes play games to win prizes. Some prizes are tasty food or tools. Other prizes give them immunity. Immunity means they are safe from being voted out.

Players compete in many types of challenges. Some are fast races. Others are hard puzzles or tests of strength. In the middle of the game, the tribes merge into one big group. After the merge, players play games alone to win prizes.

At a meeting called Tribal Council, players vote. They vote for one person to leave the game. Those who leave form a jury. This jury watches the rest of the game. At the end, the jury votes for one winner. That winner gets a grand prize and the name Sole Survivor.
