Surena was a very important man. Some writers say he was almost like a king. He was known for his courage and his skill. He was also very rich. He traveled with a large group of people.

In 53 BC, a large Roman army came to his land. The Roman leader was named Crassus. The Roman army was much bigger than the Parthian army. However, Surena used smart plans to win. He led his troops into the desert. He used clever ways to defeat the Romans. This fight is called the Battle of Carrhae. It happened in a place we now call Turkey.

The battle was a very big loss for Rome. Many Roman soldiers died or were taken as prisoners. This win made a loud echo in the East. But the win did not change which lands each side held. Later, King Orodes II had Surena killed. The king may have felt Surena was too powerful. The name Suren is still used in Iran and Armenia today.
