Surdas wrote in a language called Braj Bhasha. Before him, many people thought this was a simple way to speak. His beautiful poems helped make it a great language for books. His most famous book is called Sur Sagar. This name means "Ocean of Sur." It is a very large collection of poems. Some poems in the book describe Krishna as a lovely child.

Surdas was part of a group called the Ashtachap. This name means "Eight Seals." He was the most important member of this group. He also wrote about other figures like Rama and Sita.
