The group was started in 2005 by Lee Soo-man. At first, the group had a plan to change members every year. This was a new idea for K-pop. Later, the group kept its members and became very popular.

The members do more than just sing. They are all-around entertainers. Many members act in shows or host TV programs. Some members even form small groups called sub-units. For example, Super Junior-T is a group that sings trot music.

Another group, Super Junior-K.R.Y., focuses on singing.

Their song "Sorry, Sorry" made them famous around the world. It was a huge hit in 2009. Because of this song, people in many countries began to love them. They are often called the "King of Hallyu Wave." This name honors how they helped spread Korean music globally. The group has won many big music awards. They even topped the album charts in Taiwan for 122 weeks in a row.
