South Korea and North Korea are two separate lands. For a long time, they did not get along. In 1998, a leader named Kim Dae-jung started a new plan. He called it the Sunshine Policy.

He chose this name from an old story. In the story, the sun is kinder than the wind. The wind tries to blow a cloak off a man. But the man only holds it tighter. The sun is warm and gentle. The man takes the cloak off because of the heat. Kim Dae-jung wanted to use kindness to make peace.

Under this plan, South Korea gave aid to the North. They helped with food and money. They also let families meet again. This helped the two sides talk. In 2000, the leaders of both sides met for the first time.

Later, a leader named Moon Jae-in tried the plan again. He held many meetings in 2018. Some of these meetings were in a place called Panmunjom. This was a new way to show friendship. People called his work the "Moonshine Policy."
