Style guide

language culture Maturity 5-7 Next article →

A style guide is a set of rules. These rules help people write and design things. They make sure work looks the same. This helps people understand each other well.

Some guides are long books. People often call these style manuals. Other guides are short. These are often called style sheets.

Guides can be for many things. Some are for general use. Others are for special jobs. A doctor might use one style. A lawyer might use a different one. Some guides are made for one company. We call this house style.

These guides cover many topics. They show how to use dots and marks. They show how to use big letters. They even show how to use numbers and dates. Some guides help with web pages. They show how to use colors and pictures. They also help people with disabilities read well.

Rules can change over time. People update them to stay helpful. For example, the AP Stylebook is updated every two years. This keeps writing clear for everyone.
